School Plan 2019 - 2020

H.S. Paul School Plan for 2019-20

January 2020

Since September the  HS Paul School Community has been engaged in implementing many aspects of our school plan that is based on the divisional Multi-Year Strategic plan  Our school plan focuses on four goals that parallel the quadrants of the Circle of Courage. This Indigenous inspired whole-learner framework focuses our goals into the areas of Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity.  All quadrants of the Circle of Courage are intertwined, each one responding to and affecting the others and the whole.

Our priority learning goal #1 is in the area of Belonging

(Creating a Culture of Equity and Inclusion)

鈥淭he universal longing for human bonds is cultivated by relationships of trust so that the child can say, 鈥淚 am loved.鈥

Each classroom has started off the year with a class treaty that revolves around the four quadrants of the Circle of Courage to help build the sense of belonging.

- We are creating environments where all students feel they are loved and cared for.  We are all working together to ensure everyone feels they belong.

- We all have a need to belong- this belief is being applied in all areas of our school- students, teachers, support staff and parents.

Our priority learning goal #2 is in the area of Mastery.

(Creating a Culture of Learning and Well-Becoming)

鈥淭he inborn thirst for learning is cultivated by learning to cope with the world, the child can say. 鈥淚 can succeed.鈥

  • Learners at all levels are working on developing their comprehension skills.

  • Teachers at the various grade levels will choose from among the following Reciprocal Teaching, Optimal Learning Model, anchor charts, Writing Power and Reading Power, continuums and goal setting to develop student comprehension.

  • Staff are collecting formative and summative assessments to provide evidence that the interventions are making a difference improving comprehension skills.

  • Staff are actively involved in job embedded professional development that will be in one or more of the following areas: professional learning teams, data team, study groups, lesson study, mentoring, co-teaching, coaching, action research.

Our priority learning goal #3 in the area of Independence.

(Creating a Culture of Inquiry and Responsibility)

鈥淔ree will is cultivated by responsibility so that the child can say, 鈥淚 have the power to make decisions.鈥

  • Learners at all levels are developing skills in the area of health, wellbeing and well-becoming by becoming more confident in their ability to understand and regulate their emotions

  • Each classroom is learning about the 鈥淶ones of Regulation鈥.

  • Common language is being used throughout the school to name emotions and reactions

Our priority learning goal #4 is in the area of Generosity.

(Creating a Culture of Caring and Collaboration)

Character is cultivated by concern for others so that the child can say, 鈥淚 have a purpose for my life.鈥

  • We are providing opportunities for all learners to demonstrate concern and care for our natural environment.

  • Students will increasingly display the values and attitudes and sustainable behaviours that indicate a commitment toward sustainable living practices

  • Students will understand how traditional Indigenous knowledge contributes to our understanding of the natural world and our connection to the land.

  • Teachers, through curriculum, will guide students to connect their personal lifestyle to their ecological footprint and understand the impact on others globally and take action. In addition to curricular outcomes, students will participate in land-based education
