Weekly reminders for September 9-13th

Good afternoon École St. Germain families,

Please note our weekly reminders for the week of September 9-13th:

Community reminders

We try to send out a weekly reminder on Fridays to families regarding our upcoming school events and information.  If you would like to add another email address, please contact us at the school office.

 End of day routine change

If your end of day routine has changed (ex. your child is not taking the bus home), please notify the school by 3:00 at the very latest.

 Changes to our Milk program

We would like to inform you about some updates to the ÉSG Milk Program that will be starting on Wednesday, September 11th. For families who have previously purchased milk cards and still have a remaining balance, these balances will now be transferred into milk tickets. These tickets can be redeemed for milk (white or chocolate) during lunch, ensuring that your child’s card balance is not lost. In addition, milk tickets will be available for purchase daily and are available for bulk purchase as well at the office. ($1 for a milk ticket or pre-set bag of 20 milks tickets for $20 (white or chocolate).

To make distribution easier, Grade 5 students will be circulating at lunch in all classrooms (Kindergarten to Grade 5) to exchange purchased milk tickets for milk. Please have the milk ticket in your child’s lunch box for when the student volunteers come around with the milk (white or chocolate).

We are happy to share that these tickets will soon be available for purchase online through our new SchoolCash software. More information about this system and how to use it will follow shortly.

 Boiler at ÉSG

Due to a required boiler repair at ÉSG, a large fenced-in temporary boiler behind the school has been set up as a result. Our daily routines will continue as previously communicated, but we may need to make slight adjustments over the coming days. We will keep you updated on any changes and appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work through this.

 Student Absences

If your child is late or away from school for any reason, please don’t forget to contact us.  For safety reasons and with the goal of clear communication, each child’s absence must be justified (by a parent) for each day that your child will be absent (even in the case of consecutive days away).  If communicating your child’s absence by email, we ask that you email both secretaries at lise.mckellar@lrsd.net and nicole.dusablon@lrsd.net.  Please remove Dawne Wilson-Grenier from your distribution list as she has been transferred to another ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ school.

 Lunch monitors

In the coming weeks, we will be starting the grade 5 lunch monitor program.  Student volunteers in grade 5 help the adult Lunch Supervisors with the supervision duties of the kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 2 students. Though the main supervisory duties are done by adults, the student volunteers may help with opening lunch containers, playing games with the younger students before they go outside for recess, and occasionally seeking the help of the adult supervisors if necessary.

 Cross country

The École Saint-Germain Cross-Country Running Team will begin practices on Tuesday, September 10th. Training sessions will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10:10 a.m. Students should meet at the baseball diamond closest to the school parking lot.

Races are scheduled for September 19th, September 26th, and October 2nd, and will take place after school at St. Vital Park from 4:20 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Students and parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the park.

Mme Cloutier has prepared an information letter (also attached) along with permission slips, which need to be completed for those wishing to participate in the races. Please ask your child to see Mme Cloutier for the permission slip.

Orange shirt – Deadline: Friday, September 13th

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ schools and offices will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in acknowledgement of the residential school system and its impact on the children who attended and their families. As affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters, please consider purchasing a divisional orange T-shirt to wear. Our shirts were designed by Indigenous Graphic Designer Joshua Hunt.  (see attached order form)

Shirts are now available to purchase until September 13 for $10.00 (inclusive of taxes). The deadline to order is September 13 at 3:20 p.m.  No late orders will be accepted.  Exact cash only or cheque payable to École St. Germain.
